2010 : Lot 12: Big Bordeaux

This collection is big in structure and the three vintages represented are big in points: Parker rates the 2000 vintage Right Bank as 97 and Left Bank 99; the 2005 Right Bank 99 and Left at 98 and the 1990 at 97 overall. Other than 1989’s 98 ranking, you have to look to the 1961 (99 rating) for any comparable vintage.

It is difficult to consider anything else in a collection that includes First Growth producers Ch. Haut Brion (1990 RP 98 and 2000 RP 98) and the 2000 Ch. Mouton Rothschild (RP 97). This Mouton is particularly special as it is the only Mouton with an etched glass bottle-particularly memorable and special due to the unique creativity of each Mouton label-not to mention the wine inside each bottle.

This collection also includes a 6-pack of the Troplong-Mondot St. Emilion estate, which dates back to 1745, and was once part of the larger domaine that included Château Pavie (included in Premier Grand Cru Classé status in 2006). Thick limestone and dense clay produce powerful wines containing complex tannins. Finally, the collection includes another St. Emilion leader, Grand Cru Ch. Monbousquet.
